How to care for a snake plant

Our guidance for helping it grow healthy and strong

The snake plant, scientifically known as Sansevieria trifasciata, is a perennial plant in the Asparagaceae family, native to West Africa. At our nursery, we appreciate it for its resilience and ability to adapt to different environmental conditions, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking for an easy-to-care-for houseplant.

The right position

The snake plant prefers bright, indirect light but can also tolerate low-light conditions. This makes it perfect for almost any corner of the home, provided it is not exposed to direct sunlight for long periods.

When and how to water it

Water your snake plant when the soil is completely dry. During summer, this may mean every 7 days, while in winter it may be every 14 days. Check the soil moisture by inserting a finger into the substrate: if it is dry, it is time to water.

Temperature and humidity

The snake plant thrives in an ideal temperature range between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius. It is important not to expose it to temperatures below 10 degrees. Ideal humidity is around 40% to 60%, so no special measures are required in standard indoor environments.

The right fertilizer

During spring and summer, we recommend fertilizing your snake plant every 30 days with a balanced liquid fertilizer. This will help the plant maintain a lush, healthy appearance.

The pot and soil

Use well-draining soil made from universal potting mix and sand to ensure good drainage. Repotting is not frequently necessary, but it can be done when the plant has completely filled its pot.

How to propagate it

The snake plant can be successfully propagated by division or leaf cuttings. Division is the simplest and fastest method, ideal for those who want to multiply their plants quickly.

Our final tip

The snake plant requires little care but provides great satisfaction. Remember not to overwater it and to place it somewhere with indirect light. With these simple measures, your plant will grow strong and lush.
